"Do you know what would make this better?"

Varuna undressed quickly, like every month, and then sprawled on his stomach on the exam table. He could have left something on, or grabbed a towel, but he'd abandoned his modesty ages ago when it came to this. Really, he wasn't sure he'd ever had it.

"A warmer room, a longer span between exams, and nachos," Amde replied. Varuna couldn't see her, but he could tell she was smiling.

"I like all of those suggestions more than mine."

The room wasn't terrible, anyway, and Amde was quick enough with her exams. Varuna wasn't entirely sure why she'd added nachos but they sounded strangely good, too.

"What were you going to suggest?" Amde's hands were warm, at least, starting down on his legs. "Lower left leg, no irritation, no discoloration."

"Softer exam table?"

"Harder to keep clean. Upper left leg, no irritation, no discoloration." Amde's hands were very warm. "Have you used these lately?"

"Define lately?"

"I'll take that as a no." She moved to his right leg and then his arms. Yes, he used his wrist ports, everything felt normal, nothing to worry about.

"Haven't needed to," Varuna said quietly. Things had been pretty good. There hadn't been need for him to go all out-

Amde continued counting up his ports and noting everything was good except for the minor irritation he always had around the one. Same as last month and the month before. Same as-

"Go ahead and get dressed." Amde stepped away to tap at her datapad while Varuna did just that. Other doctors would leave the room, and Varuna was sure that Amde did for anyone else. But when it was just the two of them, doing this like every month...

"Think the cafeteria will have nachos?"
