"Oh, finally!" Amde grabbed the wrapped bundle from the mailbox outside her door and smiled. Only three months; that wasn't bad at all considering she'd ordered it from Consolation.
"What is it?" Psyche questioned.
"A book," Amde replied, before tapping in the button code for her door. When it opened, she gestured for Psyche to follow her in. "I have it on my datapad, of course, but I had a copy when I was young and one of my sisters mentioned it in a message. Before I knew it, I was hunting around the inventory of every used bookshop I could find."
"Mick doesn't even have a copy?"
Amde laughed. Mick's quarters were jammed full of books. She'd definitely thought of his collection, but-
"No, but I did ask. He's read it, but no copy of his own."
Amde dug around in a pocket for a multitool and then very carefully sliced the tape. Psyche leaned over her shoulder.
"Wonder if I know it," Psyche said softly. "Mick read to me for years, you know. Our mother hated it."
"Quite possibly." Amde pulled the book free and smiled at the familiar cover. It was just as she remembered, and different from the illustration on her digital copy.
Beside her, Psyche gasped.
"That one! I remember that one! I made Mick read it to me three times."
Amde laughed. She'd read it to her siblings more times than she could count.
And they wouldn't get through it all in one afternoon, but-
"Have a seat," she said. "We'll at least get through the first chapter?"
