Amde reached over and took Lan's hand, halfway through the tram ride to meet Jet. They were taking the long way, mostly because they weren't in a hurry and tram rides were good for chatting and just relaxing a bit.
Lan squeezed her hand and smiled, just as the tram went into a tunnel. Normally, the trams and the tunnels were lit, but a few of the longer tunnels had dark stretches, and the trams-
They were the only one in the car, however, and the tram lights flickered off.
"Did you-?"
"Not me."
Amde shrugged, and in the few seconds they had, leaned over to make the most of it.
They were back into the light before long, and the tram lights came on as well.
"I hope it's just programmed that way," Lan commented.
"Does it really matter? He doesn't really watch us all the time." Amde laughed. Varuna both watched far less and far more, to the best of her knowledge. "But we could always experiment, if Jet really doesn't need us right away?"
"Another loop?" Lan questioned.
"Might be fun? It's not a full night and dawn is a bit abrupt-"
"But it's dark and worth doing."
Amde nodded. She hadn't let go. Time to try again.
