Rick had noted the clean-cut man in the blandest suit possible actually paying attention to everything Evie said during this presentation. So many of the men paid attention because Evie was beautiful, a few because she had won some prestigious awards in her field, but this man was actually listening to her dissection of the find at Giza by Professor Langford.

With the look of a man that might even believe it, Rick noted to himself.

He poked the man next to him, keeping Croft from snoozing too much, and made a discreet nod of his head that way.

"Henry Jones, the younger," Croft told him. "Now do let me sleep; I know her presentation backwards and forwards, having helped craft it."

Rick snorted indelicately at that, remembering the crafting sessions in question, but left him alone. He'd have to see what this Jones fella was like, make sure he wasn't bankrolled by powers that would abuse the artifacts, if they were ever deciphered correctly.

It was the least he could do for Ardeth, even if the Medjai were highly skeptical of the stone ring and associated artifacts.

The mixers after these things were almost worth having his ears filled with dig talk, Rick decided, given the quality of the booze. He was steadily working his way toward Jones, having figured out the man was American, alone, and considered something of a rogue archaeologist.

"Dr. Jones?"

The man did a credible double-take at being addressed, but Rick had a sneaking suspicion the man had noted Rick's intent already.

"Mr. O'Connell, I believe? Not many Americans after all," the other man said with a smile that was fairly charismatic. "I was here to arrange the trade of artifacts, saw Mrs. O'Connell on the speaking list… it has been some time but I wondered if she might remember me."

"Might. Her mind is sharp as a tack on things from the past, after all," Rick said in his most congenial manner. "Croft is introducing her to some of the more kooky, I mean, esoteric docs, so she might not get free. Staying in town long? She does like catching up with old friends."

Jones laughed, a short quiet thing. "Not so sure of that; she threw her canteen at me on a student dig outside of Luxor."

"Oh, really distant meeting then," Rick said, re-evaluating things. "Still, she might like to see how a class mate — "

"I was an assistant, not a student," Jones clarified.

"— teacher," Rick corrected, "is doing these days." He found one of the calling cards from his pocket. "Stop by."

Jones took it, nodding. "I will. Thanks."

Rick moved on, spotting a few of their usual critics, and deciding to make their life miserable. He'd figure Jones out later.
