Prompt: 2 September, Distant Memory
Jinwoo hesitated, and then cleared his throat. The man in front of him, with a more delicate face even than Bin's, started and looked at him. "Sorry. You seemed lost in thought, and you're being left behind," he said.
Sungjong blinked at him, still with that not-quite-vacant expression on his face, and then smiled. "Thank you," he said, but didn't move. "I'm letting them go on without me."
Jinwoo grinned. "Sometimes, it's the best way," he said. "although they tend to come back and get me." Or used to. He didn't know what would happen now. Sure, they could go solo - had done, for the most part - but it wasn't what he wanted. On the other hand, what he wanted wasn't possible anymore. They had mostly survived Rocky leaving the group. None of them had recovered from Bin's death, though. He sometimes wondered if they ever would.
"Now you're lost in thought," Sungjong said. "Penny for your thoughts?"
Jinwoo shrugged. "Thinking about the past," he admitted. "It's been a long year."
Sungjong's expression softened. "It has," he agreed. "Harder for you than for me, I think."
Jinwoo shook his head. "Maybe. Still, you guys fought hard and you ended up where you wanted to be, so that's good."
Sungjong laughed softly. "Mostly," he agreed. "That's true. We did end up where we wanted to be, mostly."
"Nothing's perfect." The words almost made him choke. Just two years ago, things had been as close to perfect as he'd wanted. And now... now it felt like things would never even be good. Sure, it was better. He could say it was better. He just wanted it back to perfect, and he'd never be able to have that again.
Sungjong touched his shoulder. "You look like you could use a hug."
Jinwoo blinked at him. "I would never turn one down," he admitted, and for a moment, he let go of all expectations and just let himself relax into a much needed hug, even if from someone he didn't know well.
