"All set," Amde said as she tapped the last box on her tablet before looking up to smile at Valentine. He'd been in and out of the colony all day, helping with an assortment of tasks, and he'd far exceeded his hours.
He wasn't the only one, either, but Seth and Dr. Grise were handling the other simple exams.
"Thanks," he replied, echoing her smile. "I'll see you next time?"
"Maybe not," Amde admitted. "I'm leaving in a couple days for my enrichment weeks."
"Vacation time already?"
Amde laughed. "Yeah, but you know my family and Doctor Arsay are going to make me work for it. It was bad enough when Lan and I ended up there for our honeymoon, working the entire time."
She knew Valentine had never quite gotten that whole story, not that anyone who wasn't directly involved ever would. Honestly, Amde felt a little bad about how much her family knew, though she also knew they could keep secrets.
"That's how vacations tend to go," Valentine replied with a shrug. "If it's not one thing, it's about a dozen others. I don't even think that's specific to NIN-ANA."
Amde thought about the situation during her honeymoon, which had surprisingly little to do with NIN-ANA until it suddenly did.
"It isn't," she said. And she was absolutely expecting a few pointed messages from Varuna while she was away, anyway, but-
"I should see when mine is..."
Amde blinked. Valentine had never, ever, in her memory, taken his enrichment weeks off-colony. This was new.
She smiled at him and watched his expression change to that of a cornered mouse.
"Do tell," Amde said. This was going to be good.
