No True Pair

As usual, if I've missed a tag, mis-tagged, typo'd, or anything else with the tags on your posts, let me know. A few had to be nudged for length; I did my best.

Any other comments or questions are also welcome. Please give me a day or two to respond for IRL reasons. ^^;;

There are no set minimums for works, and while no_true_pair has traditionally been fic/art, if you're inspired to work in another medium, go ahead! Works can be romantic or platonic or the space in-between. The prompts are for inspiration; you don't need to justify how you got from the prompt to the finished product and interpretation is up to you. ^_^

I am posting this a bit early because there are a lot of signups this year, including a lot of new participants! (Hi! Welcome!) I'd like to use this time for any questions or clarifications. no_true_pair's first round was in 2008 and I've personally been participating since 2009; it's been so long that I honestly do not know what might not be clear. If something needs clarification, please ask. If you have questions, please ask.

Once it's September 1st wherever you are, you may begin posting! Post as close to the assigned date as possible until amnesty, but also don't worry about a day or so either way.

Please include at least the following:

Title:
Fandom:
Pairing/Characters: (the two from the prompt, for tagging purposes)
Content Notes: (required if included: Death, Violence, Underage, Rape/Noncon. Or- Choose Not to Warn, any additional notes)
Prompt: (e.g. June 31st, Darth Vader and Lex Luthor pet kittens.)

You can use the pre-formatted code you get from any site using otw-archive software as long as you also note which prompt you're answering.

The subject line should be something like: Title (Fandom(s), Pairing/Characters).

You may post directly to this community, to your own journal/fic journal/fic community, or to an offsite archive of your choice including AO3 or Squidgeworld. (AO3 link goes to an unofficial collection.)

Tagging: Each piece will get a tag for its fandom(s), creator, characters-in-the-prompt, and the challenge round that it answers. Tags will be made regularly, if not daily. If tags exist, please use them. (Tags may take a bit longer on T/W due to a longstanding RL commitment.) You do not need to let me know that something needs to be tagged but if a fandom has a very long or confusing title and you want to suggest the best way to identify it, please do. If I have managed a typo or otherwise, please either PM or leave a comment on any of my !admin posts.

no_true_pair's 2024 Eight-Character Challenge is open for sign-ups!

no_true_pair is, loosely, a mad-libs-style challenge. You make a list of characters, a set of prompts is posted that uses all the characters in different combinations, and you create works using those characters.

For example, if your list contained Darth Vader and Mickey Mouse as numbers 2 and 4, there could be a prompt like "2 & 4 go out for coffee" or "4 invites 2 out for dinner, except..." and you'd write Darth Vader and Mickey Mouse going out for coffee, or Mickey Mouse inviting Darth Vader out for dinner and then going from there.

1. Leave a comment with your numbered list of eight characters.

As per previous rounds:

• your list can contain characters from one fandom or different fandoms
• you may use your original characters
• you may have more than one list (as many as you like)
• every character in your list will have a prompt with every other one

2. This is a low-pressure challenge. Signing up does not obligate you to create anything.

3. Tell your friends and have fun!
