Nastya was having a lovely day. There had been murder. There had been music. There had been a very sexy luggage transport. She was in a good mood.
She had a slight pep in her step as she walked along the tulgey, corpse strewn woods. Ah, there it was. It nearly kicked her in the head, actually. She took a second to pull her hair back before she gave a firm kick to the tree, sending the hanged man swinging side to side.
“Jonny, are you alive yet?”
Jonny made no response, just dangled there. Typical. But she couldn’t bring herself to be annoyed, just pulled out her gun and started seeing how accurate she could be on the rope. She wasn’t trying very hard. A rogue bullet went through his shoulder, which his mechanism dutifully started at repairing. Another chipped one of his belts — now, he would be annoyed about that. Eventually, she hid the rope, and he crashed to the ground in an ignoble heap.
“Jonny.” She nudged him with her foot. “Are you alive yet?”
This time, he let out a wheeze and pulled the noose off. “So impatient, Nastya. Don’t you have better things to do than badger a corpse?” He rubbed at his neck, stretched and pulled himself up.
“I have been doing some better things all afternoon, if you catch my meaning.”
“Ugh. Hold on, I need to get myself hanged again.”
She snickered as they began walking out of the woods. Jonny was going to hate the transport they’d be riding on.
