Title: Hiring A Good Man
Fandom: The Mummy Series / Indiana Jones Series
Pairing/Characters: Sallah & Evie
Content Notes: None
Prompt: September 17 Seasons Change
Evie watched Alex in earnest conversation with Sallah's large brood, catching just enough to hear that they were working out the details of a game.
"It is almost the end of the season for expeditions, but still, I am honored you sought me out," Sallah said once her attention was back on him, the tea poured in each of their cups.
"Dr. Jones said you are the best, and less likely to fuss over my sex," Evie told him. "I have read between the lines of many field reports and agree with Dr. Jones. While the season is changing, this would be a very quick project, and requires minimal staffing with a trustworthy crew.
"It is not a dig, per se, you see, but a need to disguise evidence of an attempted one, to prevent further disturbance."
Sallah settled back, shrewdly appraising her. "This has no relation to Hamunaptra?" he finally asked in blunter fashion than usual.
"Not at all; that was taken care of by the guardians of that place."
"It is very hard to hide a dig site, harder still to ensure it won't come to light anyway," Sallah said, and Evie had to smile, knowing of the unofficial discovery of Tut's tomb.
"There will be a dig in that region next season, yes, but I have it on good authority that the richer caches of the more obvious targets will be distracting for a good, long while."
"Then consider me hired, and I will find the diggers."
