Prompt: Noctis & Ignis with the title “Just This Once”
The words on the paper keep blurring, and Noct is pretty sure he hasn’t absorbed a single thing from the last two pages of the report, even with Specs looming over his shoulder to point out certain sections to him specifically. Ignis is probably set to murder him at this point - but Noct can’t even bring himself to care. He knows better than most just how terrifying a thwarted Ignis can be, but he just can’t. The throbbing deep in his back has finally, finally started to ease after a rough few days, and Noct can’t tell if the lightheaded feeling is from the absence of pain or the fact that he hasn’t had a decent night’s sleep in that entire time.
Noct realizes that his eyes are closed at the same time that he realizes he’s listed sideways onto Ignis’ shoulder - that is, he realizes it because he hears Ignis sigh, loudly, from very close by, and then hears the sound of papers shuffling, and Noct expects any second to be nudged back upright to the tune of these need to be reviewed before the meeting tomorrow, highness.
But there’s a long-fingered hand cupping the back of his head, and another on his shoulder, and then the world tilts wildly before he’s horizontal with his head pillowed on something warm.
“All right,” Ignis murmurs, “just this once.”
Those fingers card through his hair once, twice - and Noctis melts, drifting off immediately into blessed, dream-free sleep.
