"Stop right there!"
Neidhart was half a step out of his bedchamber when Aisha's voice cut through the main room of his quarters. He didn't see her at first, until she straightened up from where she'd been kneeling on the floor.
"I lost a needle," she added before wincing. "Sorry."
Neidhart knew it hadn't been on purpose, and he also knew the easiest way to find it and he didn't want that.
"Which one?" he questioned. It was a little too early for this sort of thing, but if Aisha was already there or had stayed overnight, then she was working on an important project. For some reason, his quarters were preferrable to her own when it came to crafting.
It did mean he got little gifts all the time, either handmade or because she brought food along with her. Sometimes, she even brought chocolates, like that first time.
"One of the bigger ones, silver, might have a bit of red thread on it," Aisha said as she shuffled over a bit and then leaned down to peer under a chair. "I had it through my skirt, but then I didn't."
Neidhart carefully padded over to what he guessed to be a safe distance and then knelt as well.
"You looked in with your others?"
Aisha nodded. "Through everything. It has to be on the floor."
Her tone suggested that she didn't need to be interrogated, but Neidhart didn't apologize. He was still on her good side, where he needed to remain.
Together, they looked in silence, for what felt like far too long, until both, at once, saw a glint of silver and red against a desk leg.
"Oh!"
Reaching at the same time, Neidhart's hand covered Aisha's for a moment and when he pulled back, her face was red.
"Found it."
Aisha nodded and then snatched up the needle and quickly put it back in the box with all her other supplies. Neidhart still wasn't sure what she was working on, but that could wait. He'd see to waking up properly first...
She was gone when he came back to the room after washing up and finding food and coffee.
But the next morning there a black handkerchief folded on his desk, neatly hemmed and with his initials in one corner-
-all neatly done in red.
