Reduce pile of greetings cards

A definite success - after my initial count of 28, plus a further 8 I discovered (carefully saved somewhere else!), the pile has been reduced to 12 cards.  Not all have been sent, as some will be 'thank you' cards for people who've helped at our church after-school club, but they are written, and therefore allocated.

Twelve cards is a reasonable number to keep, since there are occasions when we need one, so I'm happy with that.  And if anyone does want another card sent over the summer - and in particular I do have three from the small Gloucestershire village we used to live in - I will be happy to send them.

Saying this days after the art because I am lazy and i did want to think about it for bit, but it is funny how much antis here love to pick and choose what proves their headcanons as canon (spolier alert: it's all bullshit but I still want to entertain).

Yea, the father's day art has them together as Luca is a kid. This is also a commissioned art from an artist as a celebration of the day, nothing else. It's nowhere near close to canon, as it contradicts what's told by canon (Alva didn't know that Luca was Herman's son until he decided he wanted to work for Alva. This is shown. We KNOW THIS). They are so desperate to prove you can't ship them cause 'they're basically father and son' which is also funny because the entire CN community ships them and they're in the top 3 ships in the Chinese fandom, right after joscarl and jacknaib. They laugh at how global fandom is stupid for thinking they're related in any way or see each other as family, because they do not. Nothing in their lore says that. If China didn't have the censorship it has, they'd be a canon or heavily implied ship. Not to mention that, even if they WE'RE related or seen as father and son, they would not care. They'd still ship it. Ithanatha is very popular there too, if I'm not wrong, it's either in the top 20 or 10, I'm not sure now. CN fan's don't fuck around with their ships, regardelss of how problematic they are.

Their use of commissioned fanart is also funny because another ship, Orphalice (that has an actual chance of being canon because it's an m/f ship) also has art together, but with a lot of implications and imagery of their relationship being romantic (love poems in Chinese being one of them) but when they point that out, you're 'reading too much into it' and 'you just want to justify incest' (ah yes, incest of characters that have matching orpheus and euridice skins. Incest sure) It's so see through that they're picking what they think is morally correct for their view and ignoring everything else. It's laughable how stupid they are.

This is part 3 of [personal profile] maevedarcy's 72 Multifandom questions to ask a fangirl.

Experiences and Memories

1. What’s the most memorable experience you’ve had related to your fandom(s)?
I feel like everything in Smallville fandom has kinda blurred together. Maybe not a specific fandom, but in recent years, the excitement of running (well, co running) my first exchange was such a good feeling, as was the unexpected enthusiasm over Comment Bingo, when I finally got it up and running.

#2-12
2. Have you ever traveled to a location specifically because it was featured or related to your fandom(s)?
No. When I went to Vancouver though, I was excited when I realized I could recognize the top of the building that they used as Oliver's penthouse/Queen Tower in Smallville. I still remember a LJ friend made a list of places that they film at, and I left it on my laptop and forgot that I wasn't planning on taking it, so I couldn't use it. IDK how much my family would be all for my Smallville related tour of Vancouver but I could've tried to see a couple of spots. Oh well.

3. Can you share about a time when fandom helped you through a difficult period?
I don't know if there's a specific time, but fandom has always felt like an escape. I'm pretty closed off/keep things to myself, for better or for worse, and sometimes, I think I have been able to express myself online in a way that is a little harder to do in person. And people have always been kind and supportive and I have appreciated that a lot. I've left fandom multiple times but it's always easy to find a home here when I return.

4. What’s the longest you’ve ever waited in line for an event or release related to fandom?
Probably a couple of hours. Both when I stood in line at Barnes N Nobles for the 7th Harry Potter book (had to go twice - one to get the ticket with the Letter Group I was in earlier in the day and the second time when they were actually opening the doors) or when I went to the midnight showing of The Dark Knight and had to be there at like, 9PM. Even then, we were further back than I planned so we could've gotten there sooner but the seats we ended up with weren't so bad, iirc.

5. Have you had the chance to meet any of the actors, musicians, authors, or creators from your fandom(s)?
No, the closest I got was when I saw Shah Rukh Khan filming on my college campus and seeing Chris Evans in LA pre-Captain America. I was getting ice cream with a few friends and a premiere for Push had just let out. Dakota Fanning left fairly quickly, but I do remember he was hanging around. We recognized him but I didn't have a smart phone or anything for him to sign, so I didn't bother.

6. What’s the most treasured piece of merchandise you have that’s related to fandom?
Bollywood may not be a fandom I was ever in much, but I was obsessed with Shah Rukh Khan as a teen and I was in London a few days after his Madame Tussaud's statue was revealed, so when we went, they had a SRK doll. I bought it and brought it back with me. I still have it. Also my sister once got me a Superman keychain from Six Flags and I still keep it on my lanyard. It's held up well! :D

7. Do you remember the first item you ever collected or received related to fandom?
Not really. I had a lot of Shah Rukh Khan posters as a teen. I would assume it was something Superman related though since I've been a fan for so long.

8. What’s the most exciting fan event or panel you’ve attended?
I've never attended any fan events/panels.

9. Have you participated in any challenges, collaborations, or competitions within fandom?
Yes, I've been apart of land comms, bingo events (though I'm terrible about completing them!), fests, and exchanges. They're a lot of fun and have helped me get out of my comfort zone.

10. How did you feel the first time you saw your favorite character, band, or actor in person?
I remember OneRepublic was part of this summer fest years ago and I was really excited to watch them live. I don't know how much I actually enjoy live music events/concerts, but that was a blast.

11. Have any of your family or friends become fans because of your influence? What was that like?
My sister has actually ended up getting me into shows for the most part, because I barely watch anything and she gives a lot of things a shot (she was even watching Smallville before me). My dad watched Elementary because of me, since I wanted to, and he really liked it too, so we'd watch together.

12. What’s the most emotional moment you’ve had as a fan within your community?
I remember when one of my LJ friends passed away. We weren't close, but we did work together on a fandom newsletter and I was just shocked. I'm sure many other people can relate unfortunately, but the way it all happened and escalated so quickly was a lot. I think that was the first time someone I knew online had passed away. Just so sad.

Book Leger holiday for 2026

Daughter and I had been trying to decide on which Battlefields Tour we would do next year.  There was one destination we were looking at, but neither tour quite fitted the bill properly, so I suggested instead of making that one work, she might like to look at something different.  Normally she's been really clear on what she's selected, so the fact that we weren't certain had made me wonder.

Anyway, yesterday she messaged me, and we had a chat, with the result that this morning I booked our tour for next April.  For anyone who knows their classic WWII films, this fits perfectly, as we're off to Germany, scene of The Dambusters, Colditz and the Great Escape.  It should be very interesting, not because we're relishing triumphant films, but in looking at the history and what made people behave as they did, something which doesn't change.  Among other places, we shall be visiting Dresden, Berlin and Hannover, which will be really interesting.

Explicit vs Suggestive

There are many shades of suggestive.

Forbidden love

Explicit...well now, some work is a little more explicit than others.

NSFW )

My current WIP is turning out barely suggestive and I'd really really like to have at least one explicit scene.

I can't get the characters to cooperate. *sigh* Has that ever happened to you? Or maybe the reverse? You meant to write a gen story but the characters insisted on getting naked? (Yes, that has happened to me too) Damn characters just seem to take over.

Come join us at [community profile] seasons_of_fandom! It's the landcomm formerly known as [community profile] lands_of_magic. A landcomm is a super fun community where the mods post challenges that you complete for points. Challenges could be related to writing prompts, art/graphic prompts, or just general meme-type questions/games. It was a blast last round, and you can use any fandom(s) you like. This comm reminds me of how participatory things used to be on Livejournal! I'm on team Summer. Tell them I sent you :)

Prompt: Dorothy Zbornak goes into a bar and meets... Julia Sugarbaker (Designing Women)!

Rating: General Audiences

The PFLAG Conference

As far as conferences and political rallies went, Dorothy was glad this one seemed to be staying at a civil discourse. Not, she amended in her own thoughts, that she wasn't ready to blaze truth across narrow-minds in a hope of seeing people live better, stronger lives in the open. She had to stand up for all of her principles, and was glad that joining PFLAG had given her a new outlet to do so.

Still, it had been a long day, and while she wasn't given to drinking much, a nightcap would settle her muscles down, giving her a better chance for sleep in the hotel's luxurious bed. She slipped into more casual, but still classy, attire, picked up her clutch, and headed down to the bar. It might even give her a chance to mingle with others of like minds.

If she found some of different minds, she had a piece or two of her own she'd be able to give out.

Julia Sugarbaker had been brewing on a storm since early that morning. It was bad enough that Georgia didn't have a proper organization to help the young men and women suffering from vitriol and hate, but she'd run into one too many damned Yankees tossing around their patronizing looks about even attempting to get one set up!

She straightened out her blouse, adjusted the sleeve at the wrists, and then snatched up her purse rather than stay in this ridiculously ill-decorated hotel room. She'd seen a bar downstairs. A nice little cocktail hour would help bring her down from her anger, and leave her more likely to find the right words on where to tell the next New York organizer where they could stick their disbelief in gay rights for the South!

Dorothy had seen the brunette going into one of the conference rooms earlier in the day. The decided emphasis on how the woman sat at the bar next to her spoke of difficulties.

"You're here with the PFLAG conference, yes?" Dorothy asked after the woman had a mint julep in front of her, while playing with the straw in her Long Island Iced Tea.

"I am here attempting to convince them to invest in my geographical region instead of writing us all off under the heels of those — " The woman cut herself off completely, took a deep breath. "Yes," she answered instead. "Julia Sugarbaker."

Dorothy raised an eyebrow. "The Julie Sugarbaker who was thanked in Representative Sugarbaker's speech last week?"

Julia softened her stance. "You pay attention to Washington, I take it, ma'am?"

"Dorothy Zbornak. Trying to put more effort into my ideals these days.

"And yes. Helping keep my chapter informed of events, since I have more free time."

"Were you instrumental in organization, or did you step in later? And either way, would you be willing to share any tips? The idiot I spoke to today doesn't feel there is any room in Georgia for them."

Dorothy sighed. "There are so many places in Florida that need outreach, and we run into that there. Or upstate New York, because no, the entire state does not follow the city's lead," she agreed, sympathizing. "I would be glad to work with you, and talk about how to get the support you need."

Julia smiled broadly. "Then Ms. Zbornak, I am looking forward to getting to know you."

"Likewise. Someone willing to stand up when the deck is stacked that way is the kind of woman I'd like to know," Dorothy agreed.
