The crackle of the campfire was a soothing sound, even as one of the squires snored, and one of the Knights turned fitfully in her sleep.
Traveling the Silver Marches was not something done lightly, not with their Lady in the party, but they trusted in her wards around them.
Only Kiera was awake still, having chosen this watch.
"They say you used to do this all the time," she said, keeping her voice low.
Alustriel smiled. "When I was young, after I had my magic solidly in hand, I traveled the realms, seeking knowledge, meddling as my Harper training demanded."
Kiera smiled at the idea of that. "Hard to think of, as stately as you are, my Lady."
"I assure you that I had my days of being as wild as my younger sisters, dear one. I chose to put that aside for Silverymoon."
"We are all very enriched by that choice, but… do you miss it?"
Alustriel laughed quietly. "Every time our ranger and dwarven princess leave us," she told Kiera. "But, I still have work to do, so that Silverymoon remains strong once I leave.
"Someday, though, I will take to the road, and find new adventures."
