Title: late nights
Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh! GX
Pairing/Characters: Tenjouin Asuka, Yuuki Judai
Rating: Gen
Content Notes: none
Prompt: When the cat's away...
As Asuka kicks through the dirt in the dark, looking for a stone that’s big enough to throw but not big enough to break a window, it occurs to her that her mission is very Judai-like.
A very specific type of Judai, certainly; it’s the kind of thing he would’ve done when he was a bright-eyed first-year student, aggressive in his confidence and joy. And he would’ve been throwing rocks at her window, trying to get her to come on some adventure. Or to save someone.
Judai, these days, wouldn’t volunteer for an adventure. And Asuka knows with confidence that even if he did, he wouldn’t ask anyone to come.
At last she picks up a rock that has a decent weight to it, one that seems clatter-y. She’s had her share of stones thrown at her window before, so she knows what makes a good one.
Asuka grinds her heels into the dirt, winds back, and pitches the rock at the Osiris dorm window.
She’s expecting the window to slide open, maybe a head to poke out. Maybe even Shou or Kenzan’s head. Instead, the window pops open, and Judai leaps out, landing on the balcony, wide-eyed.
“Judai,” Asuka whisper-shouts. “It’s just me!”
His shoulders relax as soon as he catches sight of her in the grass. “Asuka?”
“Di Medici isn’t here.”
“So?”
Asuka lifts the keys to the groundskeeper’s shed and jingles them, flecks of moonlight glinting off the metal. “Wanna go for a boat ride?”
There’s a moment where Asuka is certain he’ll say no. That this is serious Judai, the one who doesn’t know how to do a partner duel or laugh or look her in the eye.
But then, Judai grins, and Asuka’s heart stops at the sight. “Can I bring some snacks?”
“Yes,” Asuka says, and nearly laughs in relief. “You can bring snacks.”
