Moreta stuck her head inside the Warder's office, and smiled when Nerilka went to stand up.
"Leri just left," Nerilka said, making Moreta proud of the younger woman, using the name instead of the title. Bit by bit, Nerilka was showing her acceptance of proper rank, even if she still managed the Warder position in addition to her duties as a Lady Holder.
Not, Moreta knew, those were too heavy in comparison to rebuilding the ravaged Hold.
"Orlith told me Holth had gone, and it was actually you I wanted to see," Moreta promised her. "Desdra thought that you might be open to an idea."
"I've had a few of my own lately," Nerilka said, betraying nothing as she poured water for them to share.
"Would they be about the baby?" Moreta asked, going to the point.
"Yes. I wondered if, like with Oklina, you wanted to foster your child here," Nerilka said steadily.
"She'd better not catch one before Hannath matures," Moreta said with a teasing scold. "I'll pin B'lerion's ears back."
Nerilka laughed, nodding. "She's being cautious, I assure you. I'm not yet carrying, but I hope it happens soon, so yours and mine can grow up close."
Moreta reached out and took her hands from where she had perched. "You're still fine with this? And the scandals?"
"You're Pern's savior. And not many Ladies get to share their Lord's affections with someone of equal rank… if more prestige than I ever wish to hold."
Moreta nodded. "I thought about fostering in Keroon, for my family's holds, but… I think it's time to let that go. And I prefer to see this child part of our full family, Nerilka. If you have one close to mine, even better for us all," she said.
"Then, I will hope harder."
