[NIN-ANA: I have you on the camera on the kittycorner bodega. It doesn't move and covers to that small tree with the multicolor ribbon around it. Then there's a blank zone until the planter with the marigolds.]
[VG: Got it. What's a marigold?]
[NIN-ANA: The orange flowers.]
Valentine glanced up from his datapad and then crossed the street like he'd been checking directions or the time. He saw the tree and the planter and oh, yes, he actually did know what marigolds were, he just didn't know their name. He'd definitely seen them plenty of times.
Well, he had the trip back to NIN-ANA to read up on common decorative flowers and he half-expected Varuna to have sent him a guide before the day was out.
Past the small tree with the ribbon. Surprisingly, there was a bench.
His datapad beeped and Valentine sat.
[NIN-ANA: You're good.]
[VG: I've seen marigolds before.]
Then Valentine tucked his datapad away and waited.
A woman with multiple bags flopped down beside him and sighed.
"You ever have one errand somehow become a dozen and then some?"
"Any time I go out. Someone always asks me to pick up something..."
The woman laughed. "I know, right? Ah, but I should get going."
"I hope you catch your bus."
The woman smiled and gathered her bags, leaving one behind beside Valetine's leg, tucked half-under the bench.
He didn't reach for it until she'd crossed the street and turned the corner, vanishing from view.
And then he took it quietly, not looking inside, got to his feet and continued on past the marigolds and towards his waiting team.
[NIN-ANA: Good job, Valentine.]
