Title: Wedding Prep
Fandom: The Mummy Series
Pairing/Characters: Ardeth Bay & Evelyn Carnahan
Content Notes: None
Prompt: September 7 temporary neighbors
Evie came out of the tent, frowning at finding her opening looked onto a different tent than she expected. She moved boldly to go inside that one, just in time for Ardeth to come out of it and narrowly avoid being run over by her.
"That's not Rick's usual tent," she said.
"When you and he accepted my invitation to be married properly, you agreed to abide by custom." Ardeth gave a small smile. "I am standing as your kinsman, as your father is dead, as is Dr. Bey."
"And that means your tent is here why?"
"To protect your virtue, and to translate for you, when the women come to prepare you."
"Who is protecting Rick?" Evie asked, even as she was actually touched by Ardeth's personal investment.
"My sister." He chuckled. "She has little use for men, so he will be well-guarded."
That set Evie to laughing, and Ardeth joined her. She knew he was aware that she and Rick had not even waited for the formal vows of their own peoples, but this was one more part of being embraced by the Medjai as eyes and ears outside of Egypt.
"I suppose my safety is yours, then."
