"So, Mr. Paris, what brings you to this lovely establishment?"

"Stole a shuttle, broke the prime directive, got punished for choosing my personal moral code instead of Starfleet's. You know, the usual," Tom shrugs. "What are you in for?"

"Oh, the usual," Beverly chuckles wryly. "Stole a shuttle, flew it into the sun to avenge a colleague's murder. At least I managed not to break the prime directive though," she finishes with a smirk, even though Tom can't see it from the other side of the brig wall.

"What is a doctor doing flying shuttles into the sun?" Tom asks haughtily.

"The same thing a pilot is doing performing surgeries, I expect," Beverly snaps back, immediately irritated by the young man's superior attitude.

Several times, Tom starts to reply and then stops himself, his mouth flapping like a big mouth bass. Eventually he gives up and slumps back onto his cot to brood.

Just because they are neighbors doesn't mean they have to be friends.
