"Not what I imagined for today," Rick admitted, even as he went ahead with laying out the blanket.
"Little in our lives goes to plan. But I am still pleased to share your hospitality today, without Evelyn." Ardeth situated the basket and began emptying it once the blanket was down.
"Yeah. I mean, your visits here have to be short, ours down there tend to involve running and screaming, so no reason to waste a picnic even if she had to beg off," Rick agreed.
Ardeth smiled at the summation, nodding along. "We are our own kind of family, yes."
