Summary: Kaia wants Mike to see her point of view, and knows exactly what to do.
Word Count: 430
Prompt/challenge you're answering: Mike and Kaia: It was a dark and stormy night
Mike grunted, straining against the vines but it was no use – whenever he slipped out just a bit, they moved to cover their lost ground. He guessed he should consider himself lucky that they'd only tied his arms and feet together, a deer carrying him on its back, but seeing as he was deep in Terra Dweller territory… It wasn't looking good.
But the Burners were coming for him, he knew it. He'd been snatched up while on the food run, so in the very least, when he hadn't gotten back after a certain amount of time, they'd come looking for him. And after finding Mutt crashed into the side of a building, covered in vines, they'd know exactly where to go.
He just hoped it was going to be soon, because he was being carried somewhere into their territory and he wasn't liking the possibilities. Since he was on one of their deer - well, okay, the Terra Dwellers could still stop and pull him up one of the mushrooms, but Mike wasn't getting that vibe. And he'd proven that he could survive a massive drop with relatively no problems.
Which meant what? What else was in their forest? Something bigger than their mutant deer?
They turned into a clearing, and Mike could see Kaia standing there, waiting in front of a luminous body of water.
"Mike," she greeted, nodding her head.
Definitely not looking good. "Kaia. Uh, nice to see you again, but my friends will be-"
"Too late," she cut in, her eyes glittering. She made a gesture, and Mike was hauled off the deer and dumped on the ground in front of her. "You see this lake?" she asked, crouching down next to his head. "It used to be beautiful, teaming with life – until Kane dumped his toxic waste in it."
Mike didn't like where this seemed to be heading, struggling against the vines again.
Kaia watched him for a second before bringing out a knife. "I told your friend it would take years before he turned into a mutant deer; I wasn't lying." She lifted his head up by his chin and squeezed, making sure he couldn't jerk away. "Turning you into one of us however…" Slowly, she dragged the knife across Mike's forehead and he closed his eyes when his blood started to trickle into his eyes. "That's easy.
"Maybe you'll be more sympathetic to our cause when you see things from our point of view."
There were hands at his arms but before Mike could do anything, he was flung into the lake.
