Dinah let herself into Roy's place, took note of the dimmed lights, the elegantly placed dishes, and stifled a sigh.
Now she knew why Dick asked her to abuse League privileges and go.
"Roy, honey?" she called, to see him coming out of the kitchen. His face was an interesting twist of disappointment and joy and worry — the last being for the bandages peeking out from under her blouse.
"Di, I — "
"Dick asked me to come. Gotham kind of … well, Gothamed, earlier. And I'm benched, so…"
Roy came over to help her get her jacket off, then scooped her in carefully for a hug.
"Gunshot?" he asked, after his hands told him the bandages were front and back.
"Straight through," she promised, "nothing vital." She leaned up and kissed his cheek. "Dick didn't warn me I was filling in, but that he asked me to come…"
"Says it was bothering him," Roy agreed, relaxing away from disappointment entirely. "Well, a candlelit dinner with my best lady in my life is just as good a night as I could hope for. And it means I get to spoil you, watch over you while that finishes healing."
Dinah smiled. "Smells good, Dick worries, and this is a good night. I can even check in with O for you, later, to be sure he's fine, before we go to bed."
"You're the best, Di." He let her follow him to the kitchen to finish getting the food ready, pleased by his lover's choice.
