Prompt: Ignis & Prompto have an unexpected candlelit dinner

When the electricity in the apartment flickers and dies all of a sudden— undoubtedly due to the storm outside, roaring against the windows with all the fury of Ramuh unleashed— Prompto is in the shower. He yelps when the lights die, and has a scant few seconds to hope that Ignis hasn’t heard it all the way from the kitchen before he hears a voice come through the door.

“Prompto?”

“I’m fine,” he calls back, wincing. “Just— startled me.” He fumbles for the taps in the dark, manages to get out and find a towel and make it out to the bedroom in one piece. His phone, thankfully, is right where he left it on the table nearest the door, and still has most of a charge; he gratefully clicks on the flashlight to dig out a fresh set of sweats, and then heads out to the main room.

Ignis is using the flashlight on his own phone to fetch down a box from an upper shelf. “Candles,” Ignis explains, gesturing with the box before setting it down. “If you wouldn’t mind getting these going, I’ll see what I can salvage of dinner.”

“Can do!” Prompto beelines for the box. “What about the others?” he calls as he pops the lid off to find a mix of half-burned novelty candles, scented things in glass jars, and bundles of purely utilitarian tapers that just scream Crownsguard emergency supply kit.

“They’ll no doubt stay at the citadel until things settle down and the power returns,” Ignis’ voice wafts out of the kitchen.

Prompto realizes partway through the box that Ignis probably hadn’t meant for him to light all the candles— if nothing else, the mix of different scents will probably get odd after a while. But they’re already set out, and it really does look nice with the way the warm glow kind of softens the edges of things, so he keeps going and just grins at Ignis when he returns carrying two bowls.

Ignis just gives him an eyebrow and a tiny smile. “Very romantic,” he says, voice desert-dry.

But he still puts the two bowls down on the same side of the coffee table and settles in close to Prompto’s side, regardless. The familiar smell wafting off the dishes finally registers to Prompto, and he gasps.

“Green curry?!”

“Thankfully, it was mostly done already,” Ignis says. “By rights, it should have simmered another half hour or so, just to develop the favours, but it should still be edible at least.”

Prompto makes an eager sound and bumps their shoulders together. “You’re the best, Iggy.”

And as the thunder rattles against the window once more, Prompto pulls the blanket down off the back of the couch to tuck over both their shoulders at once.
