Randolph stared at da Silva’s smooth, unscarred back.

“It’s not possible,” he whispered. “You must have earned those words somehow.”

“Of course I did,” da Silva snapped. “Delightful of you to insist that there’s only one true way to suffer.”

Randolph snarled, “Now see here—”

“I saw enough already. Why do you think I intervened?” Da Silva looked as irritated as Randolph typically felt. “Shit and derision, I liked that jacket.”

They both glanced at the malevolent tree, which contentedly brandished the shreds of da Silva’s suit.

Donning the greatcoat Curtis handed to him, da Silva said, “Now, then…”

This is such a great line in a really intriguing drabble! I only know one of these characters, but I'm going to need to add the Green Men to my to-be-read pile now from looking up what the deal was with this guy. And I really love the idea of Daniel and Archie getting tangled up with some magical problem, how fun!
